Adapted from the play Filumena Marturano by Eduardo De Filippo, this romantic comedy-drama was the fourth film directed by De Sica starring Loren and the second to feature Marcello Mastroianni. Using sly humor, the film tells the story of an unorthodox romantic relationship that began outside of a Neapolitan brothel during a World War II bombing and continues in fits and starts for 22-years. Winner of the 1965 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, this comedy anthology stars S Loren and Marcello Mastroianni to explore the stories of three couples — all played by Loren and Mastroianni — in different parts of Italy — Naples, Milan, and Rome — creating a full portrait of the diverse cultural and social landscapes of the country.
