Randy Waldman

Randy Waldman began playing piano at the age of five and was hired for his first professional gig at 12, demonstrating pianos at a music store. Just after finishing high school, at just 21, Waldman was hired to go on tour as pianist for Frank Sinatra. Shortly after, he was hired to tour with The Letterman, and then with other popular headliners, including Minnie Ripperton, Lou Rawls, Paul Anka, and George Benson, with whom Waldman toured for seven years as pianist, conductor and arranger.

For the next ten years, Waldman worked as a session pianist, doing records, movies, TV, jingles, song writing and arranging. His talents can be heard on the recordings of Celine Dionne, Michael Bolton, Madonna, Whitney Houston, Vanessa Williams, Patti LaBelle, Michael Jackson, and in motion picture soundtracks such as Forrest Gump, Roger Rabbit, Hoffa, Back to the Future, Bodyguard, Father of the Bride, Beetlejuice, and more.

Waldman was nominated for Best Vocal Arrangement for a song that he co-wrote for the Manhattan Transfer. He also co-arranged (and performed) the hit song Somewhere for Barbra Streisand, which won a Grammy for Best Arrangement.

Of late, Waldman has moved into producing, including for Bobby Caldwell, Patti LaBelle, Kenny G, The Stylistics, and Mary Wilson. He has done numerous orchestral arrangements for the team Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis, Nancy Wilson, Gladys Knight and others.

He has released five CDs, including three with The Randy Waldman Trio. The most recent is Wigged Out, a collection of famous classical compositions transformed by Waldman’s inspired jazz arrangements and piano mastery.
