You're invited to Sing In the Holidays! with San Francisco Opera Adler Fellows Simone McIntosh, Christopher Oglesby, Zhengyi Bai, Esther Tonea, and pianist Kseniia Polstiankina Barrad.  The festive program will include classics by Mozart and Strauss, along with seasonal holiday favorites!

Simone McIntosh
Simone McIntosh

Simone McIntosh is a mezzo-soprano with “sheer vocal agility and lovely rich sound” (Vancouver Sun). A 2021 Adler Fellow at San Francisco Opera, she is a graduate of Canadian Opera Company’s Ensemble Studio. McIntosh has received several distinguished awards and recognition including the 2016 Wirth Vocal Prize.

Christopher Oglesby
Christopher Oglesby

Tenor and third year Adler Fellow Christopher Oglesby made his San Francisco Opera house debut as Dancaïre in Carmen. With San Francisco Opera he sang Benvolio in Romeo and Juliette and Edmondo in Manon Lescaut. In 2021 he will make his role and company debut as Boris in Kát’a Kabanová with West Edge Opera.

Esther Tonea
Esther Tonea

Praised for her “dramatic excellence, flexibility, and beauty of her singing” by Classical Voice America, Romanian-American soprano Esther Tonea has appeared in concert and recital across the United States, Canada, and Europe. As Diana in the world premiere of Jake Heggie and Gene Scheer’s If I Were You, Tonea stunned audiences and critics alike with “magnificent singing — an ardent, tonally plush performance.” She has also dazzled as Fiordiligi with her “gleaming tones and impeccable dynamic control” (San Francisco Chronicle).

Zhengyi Bai
Zhengyi Bai

Tenor Zhengyi Bai is currently completing his third year of training in the renowned Adler Fellowship Program at San Francisco Opera. A 2018 participant of the Merola Opera Program, he has been recognized by the San Francisco Chronicle for his “charming verve.”

Kseniia Polstiankina Barrad
Kseniia Polstiankina Barrad

Kseniia Polstiankina Barrad, a native of Ukraine, is a pianist and collaborator with a flourishing career on both sides of the Atlantic. As a collaborative pianist hailed for her “powerful and beautiful” (Polly Magazine) playing, Kseniia has worked with opera and vocal music organizations across the U.S. She has been a part of the music staff for San Francisco Opera’s productions of Carmen and Manon Lescaut, and was a rehearsal and orchestra pianist for West Edge Opera’s production of Breaking the Waves.
