Nia Imani Franklin, composer, vocalist, and 2019 Miss America, will provide a one week, online music theory and composition workshop (via Zoom) for aspiring middle and high school composers culminating in her performance of the students’ compositions written during the week’s workshop. Franklin’s curriculum will include the work of important female composers, bringing attention to lesser-known composers in music history and inspiring all students to follow their dreams and creative goals. Participation is anticipated to include a variety of middle schools from across Napa County as well as non-profit mentoring organizations for teens in Napa and Sonoma counties.
