Canard Vineyard

Set along the Napa River at the northern end of Napa Valley, Canard Vineyard is one of Calistoga’s rare historic estates where farming, history, and winemaking remain deeply intertwined. The property traces its origins to a mid-19th century land grant from the Spanish General of California and has evolved over generations as a true working vineyard,  a spirit that continues to shape the estate today.
Family-owned and independently farmed, Canard is guided by a philosophy of stewardship and restraint. All of the vineyards are dry-farmed, encouraging deep root systems and naturally balanced vines that express the character and rhythm of the land with remarkable clarity. The estate’s vineyards include revered ancestral Zinfandel planted more than 145 years ago alongside Bordeaux varieties that thrive in Calistoga’s warm days, cool evenings, and gravelly river soils.

In the cellar, Canard’s French-trained winemaker approaches each lot with precision and minimal intervention, crafting wines of structure, nuance, and longevity rather than sheer power and instant gratification. The Bordeaux-inspired blends in particular reflect a classical sensibility,  layered, elegant, and firmly rooted in place.

What distinguishes Canard as much as the wines themselves is the atmosphere surrounding them: understated, deeply personal, and grounded in authenticity. Guests are welcomed not into a performance of Napa luxury, but into a living agricultural estate where history, hospitality, and thoughtful winemaking continue to unfold with quiet confidence.
