Carola Zertuche, originally from Torreón, Mexico, has been the artistic director of Theatre Flamenco of San Francisco since its 50th-anniversary celebration in 2016. Throughout her tenure, she has fostered collaborations with artists globally, breathing new life into traditional flamenco while incorporating modern and avant-garde elements. Zertuche, with a dance career initiated in Mexico City and refined in Spain, boasts a rich history performing with renowned flamenco companies worldwide. Her significant achievements include nominations and awards, such as a 2002 Isadora Duncan Award nomination for "Outstanding Achievement in Performance: Soloist" and subsequent recognitions for best flamenco shows in 2007 and 2008. Zertuche's choreography was featured in the San Francisco Opera's production of La Traviata in 2017. Alongside her role as artistic director, she passionately imparts her knowledge through flamenco dance classes and workshops in San Francisco and internationally.
