The 2024 Manetti Shrem Opera Fellows perform a showcase of favorite opera scenes together with Festival Orchestra Napa. The program also features Volti Chorale in the world premiere of composer Gordon Getty’s Old Man in the Snow, in the first performance of the Old Man triptych. Ming Luke, Dana Sadava, and Zach Salsburg-Frank conduct.
Food will be available for purchase at Festival Napa Valley's Culinary Garden at Charles Krug from Sushi Monkey and Foodshed. Wine, non-alcoholic beverages, and caviar from Calvisius Caviar Co. will be available for purchase from Charles Krug.
General admission tickets are available for $35 per guest.
Performers
With the 2021 premiere of his operatic film Goodbye, Mr. Chips, composer Gordon Getty adds a
fourth opera to his list of compositions, which also includes works for orchestra, chorus, vocal
and instrumental soloists, and chamber ensembles. His staged works have been mounted by
Leipzig Opera, Welsh National Opera, San Francisco Opera, Los Angeles Opera, and Bolshoi
Ballet, while his orchestral repertoire has been recorded and performed by the likes of the San
Francisco Symphony under Michael Tilson Thomas, Mikhail Pletnev leading the Russian National Orchestra, and Sir Neville Marriner with the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields. Getty’s life in music is the subject of Peter Rosen’s 2016 documentary There Will Be Music. Ming Luke is a versatile conductor who has excited audiences around the world. He has been recognized nationally for his work in music education and has served on grant panels for the National Endowment of the Arts and the Grants and Cultural Committee of the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission.
Dana Sadava enjoys a varied career as a conductor of opera and symphonic music. She was recently promoted to full-time Faculty at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she serves as Associate Conductor of Opera. Recent guest conducting includes the San Diego Symphony, Opera San Jose, Symphony of the Redwoods, Opera Steamboat, Island City Opera, Festival Opera, and Wexford Festival Opera (Ireland).
With a renewed perspective for classical music, emerging conductor Zach Salsburg-Frank brings his unique mixture of vocal and orchestral background to lead sensitive and dynamic performances of opera and orchestral repertoire for a new generation of music lovers.
Festival Napa Valley Volti Chorale is a 36-member chorus made up primarily of singers from Volti, one of the leading professional vocal ensembles in the United States. Under the direction of Robert Geary since its founding in 1979, Volti has a primary purpose of performing contemporary American music, and has commissioned and premiered over 100 new works.
Festival Orchestra Napa is an all-star ensemble that brings together principal players from major international orchestras and faculty from renowned colleges and conservatories, together with participants from the Frost School of Festival Napa Valley's Blackburn Music Academy. Centered around a core of Frost School of Music faculty, the orchestra also includes hand-picked musicians from ensembles such as the San Francisco Symphony, MET Opera Orchestra, Dallas Symphony, Houston Symphony, and Atlanta Symphony, among others. Festival Orchestra Napa’s appearance is made possible through a generous gift from Tatiana and Gerret Copeland, proprietors of Bouchaine Vineyards.
