Stephanie Mortimore

Stephanie Mortimore has held the position of Principal Piccolo with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra since 2000. She has also frequently performs at the Met in the role of Acting Principal Flute.

Mortimore can be heard on three Grammy Award winning recordings with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and in a video series with the All-Star Orchestra that received two Emmy Awards. She also performs on the MET’s weekly Saturday radio broadcast, on their popular Live in HD series, and in as many as three live broadcasts each week on SiriusXM. She has won numerous distinctions, including first prizes in the Myrna Brown Competition, the James Pappoutsakis Competition, and the Union League Civic and Arts Foundation Competition.

An active recitalist and soloist, Mortimore has performed with the Dallas Chamber Orchestra and has given recitals in Weill Recital Hall and numerous other venues around the country.  She is an adjunct faculty member at the Juilliard School and frequently teaches classes at the Manhattan School of Music and New York University.

Mortimore enjoys spending her summers in Jackson, Wyoming where she performs with the Grand Teton Music Festival. During the MET season, she lives in New York City with her husband, bassoonist Charles Bailey, her son, Eli, and various fauna, including a parrot named Hawkney who considers himself a consummate music critic.
