The Pacific Symphony and outstanding young Chinese pianist Tianxu An make their Festival debuts in an evening of musical masterpieces. An takes center stage for Rachmaninoff’s Third Piano Concerto, a tour de force of sweeping melodies, rich orchestral textures, and staggering technical demands. The program also includes Tchaikovsky’s shimmering and dramatic Swan Lake Suite, the quintessential ballet score and one of classical music's most recognized works. Gavriel Heine conducts.

Performers
Gavriel Heine’s repertoire encompasses a wide range of symphonic, ballet, and operatic masterworks. At The Mariinsky Theatre alone, he has conducted well over 800 performances. On tour and as a guest conductor, he has performed across the world in some of the most prestigious opera houses, festivals, and concert venues.
Tianxu An is an outstanding young pianist, sought after both at home in China and around the world. In 2019, he drew international attention when he won fourth prize and a special prize for “courage and restraint” in the XVI International Tchaikovsky Competition.
Pacific Symphony, the resident orchestra of Segerstrom Center for the Arts for more than 15 years, is a leader in musical innovation and community connection. Since its founding in 1978, the Symphony has grown to become the largest orchestra formed in the U.S. in the last 50 years.
