Sofia Lebed

Violist Sofia Lebed has won more than a dozen international competitions, including Classica Nova (Hannover, Germany, 1997), the Fourth International Yuri Bashmet Violist Competition (Moscow, 2000), Premio Trio di Trieste (Italy, 2001) and the TIM X Competition (France, 2002). She is also an honoree of the Russian Performing Arts Fund and a participant in the Kronberg Academy (Germany), where she performed in an ensemble with Yuri Bashmet and Gidon Kremer. As a duet with her sister, the pianist Maria Lebed, she has performed throughout Russia, Asia, Germany and Italy.

Ms. Lebed has participated in several important international music projects, including the World Orchestra, led by Valery Gergiev, the Verbier Festival Orchestra, under the direction of James Levine, and the Kremerata Baltica, under the direction of Gidon Kremer. 

A graduate of Moscow's Gnesin Music School and the Moscow State Conservatory, where she was a student of the renowned violist Yuri Bashmet, Ms. Lebed joined the Russian National Orchestra in 2002. She is a founding member of Four Strings.
