Sergei Doubov was born in 1963. In 1989 he graduated with honors from the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory, and was a student of Yuri Bashmet. Beginning in 1989, he was assistant principal violist in the Moscow State Symphonic Orchestra. In 1990, he began playing with the Russian National Orchestra. He is presently principal violist.
Sergei Doubov plays frequently in a variety of chamber ensembles, performing with Mikhail Pletnev, Yuri Bashmet, A. Rudin, V. Feigin, Rustem Gabdullin, V. Popov, Vanessa May and many others. He also collaborates with contemporary music ensembles of the Russian Union of Composers and the Moscow Concert Philharmonic Union. He has taken part in a number of music festivals, including: The Festival of Soviet Music (Boston, 1988), The Festival of Chamber Music (Rheinland-Pfaltz, Germany), the Tokyo Summer Festival, International Gaudeamus Music Week (Amsterdam), December Evenings, Moscow Autumn and others.
Doubov has been recorded on CDs featuring chamber works by Haydn, Glinka, Stravinsky, Hindemuth, Debussy, Ravel and others.
