Richard Howell is an acclaimed jazz saxophonist, composer, and educator whose music celebrates diversity and unites the experience of all listeners. Howell has performed and recorded with numerous musical icons such as Etta James, Ray Charles, B.B. King, Chaka Khan, Maurice White, and Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah. He has toured the United States, Europe, and Africa and has participated in the Newport and New Orleans Jazz Festivals. With his quartet, Howell won an Izzie Award for his collaboration with choreographer Gregory Dawson at the Black Choreographers Festival. He has also produced several albums, including those by the Afro-Brazilian ensemble Vivendo de Pão and jazz/spoken-word ensemble UpSurge!, as well as those by the Mo’Rockin Project, for which he also served as an arranger and soloist. Howell teaches through JazzTree Education, and he is an intricate part of Oaktown Jazz Workshops. He exclusively performs on Cannonball Musical Instruments.
