Hailing from Buffalo, New York, flutist Lauren Scanio is an avid recitalist with an adventurously eclectic range of repertoire from baroque to contemporary. She is a founding member of the Third Rail Duo with guitarist-composer Joseph Douglass, with whom she presented monthly recitals on the Sunday Afternoon Classical series at the Morgan Library and Museum. Scanio has performed as a substitute musician with the New York Philharmonic, Buffalo Philharmonic, and New World Symphony, and she was a fellow with the National Repertory Orchestra in Breckenridge, Colorado. She was previously a member of the Montclair Orchestra and New York Youth Symphony. Scanio received her master’s degree from the Juilliard School, where she studied with Robert Langevin, and her bachelor's degree from Manhattan School of Music, where she studied with Michael Parloff.
