Kent Nagano

Kent Nagano is considered one of today’s outstanding conductors for both operatic and orchestral repertoire. He will be the next Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Orquesta y Coro Nacionales de España in Madrid in September 2026 and is the newly appointed Principal Artistic Partner of Filarmonica Toscanini. In addition, he is committed to serve as Artistic Director of the Ring project “The Wagner Cycles” for Dresdner Musikfestspiele. He has been Honorary Conductor of the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin since 2006, of Concerto Köln since 2019, of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal since 2021, and of the Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Hamburg since 2023.

Nagano has received Grammy Awards for his recordings of Busoni’s Doktor Faust, Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf, and Saariaho’s L’amour de Loin, and he has published two books with Berlin Verlag. He has been awarded the titles of Chevalier and Compagnon in the Ordre des art et des lettres of France and the Ordre des arts et des lettres of Québec, respectively. He has also received the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Order of Canada, as well as multiple honorary doctorates from universities in the United States and Canada.
