Kang Wang

Australian-Chinese tenor Kang Wang is one of the most sought-after young lyric tenors in the opera world. He is a former member of the Lindemann Young Artist Development Program of the Metropolitan Opera and a finalist in the 2017 Cardiff Singer of the World competition. The 2024-25 season sees Wang appear as Macduff in Macbeth at the Washington National Opera, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly at the Canadian Opera Company, Alfredo in La traviata with the Seiji Ozawa Music Academy, and Rodolfo in Luisa Miller at the Washington Concert Opera.

A favorite of competitions, Wang won second place in the renowned Belvedere International Singing Competition in Moscow in 2017 and the People’s Choice Award in the Dame Joan Sutherland National Vocal Award in Australia. In 2016, he won second place and the People’s Choice Award in the Dallas Opera Guild Vocal Competition. In 2014, he won the 2014 Clonter Opera Prize in the United Kingdom.

Originally from Harbin, China, Wang is the son of two renowned opera singers. He received an International Artist Diploma at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, United Kingdom and a master’s degree in opera performance from the Queensland Conservatorium at Griffith University in Australia.
