Recognized as one of the leading baritones of his generation, Jean-François Lapointe has graced the stages of major opera houses across Europe, including Paris, Vienna, Zurich, Barcelona, Madrid, and Berlin, as well as in North America and Asia. Praised for the richness of his voice, the elegance of his interpretation, and his compelling stage presence, he brings depth and distinction to every role.
His extensive repertoire includes signature performances as Pelléas and Golaud in Pelléas et Mélisande, the title role in Hamlet, Albert in Werther, Valentin in Faust, Mercutio in Roméo et Juliette, Aeneas in Dido and Aeneas, and the title role in Eugene Onegin, among many others. His discography includes acclaimed recordings of La jolie fille de Perth, Benvenuto Cellini, Le Mage, Ascanio, Iphigénie en Tauride, Ciboulette, and Dialogues des Carmélites.
Recent and upcoming engagements include Germont in La Traviata at Opéra de Tours, Sulpice in La Fille du régiment at the Château de Versailles, Faust et Hélène in concert with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, and a Fauré program with the Orchestre Classique de Montréal. Jean-François Lapointe is a Knight of the National Order of Quebec and currently serves as General and Artistic Director of Opéra de Québec.
