Christopher Costanza

For nearly four decades, cellist Christopher Costanza has enjoyed an exciting and varied career as soloist, chamber musician, and teacher. A winner of the Young Concert Artists International Auditions and the recipient of a Solo Recitalists Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, Costanza has performed to enthusiastic critical acclaim throughout the United States, Europe, Canada, South America, Australia, New Zealand, China, and South Korea.

Christopher was the cellist of the world-renowned St. Lawrence String Quartet from 2003 until the group’s retirement in 2024. As a full-time Artist-in-Residence at Stanford University, he teaches cello and chamber music, directs the Stanford Cello Choir, and serves as the Associate Director of Music Programs for Stanford Medical Humanities and Arts. His discography includes chamber music and solo recordings on multiple labels, and his recordings of the Six Suites for Solo Cello by J.S. Bach can be found on his innovative website, costanzacello.com. He is privileged to perform on an early 18th-century Venetian cello, part of the Harry R. Lange Collection of Musical Instruments and Bows at Stanford. In addition to his varied musical interests, Mr. Costanza is an avid runner and hiker.
