Brian Powell is Associate Professor of Double Bass and Music Education at the University of Miami Frost School of Music. A versatile performer and teacher, Dr. Powell’s work in the field of classical performance and music education are equally significant and well-known. As a performer, Dr. Powell has extensive orchestral, chamber music, and solo experience. His students have also gone on to earn positions in full-time professional orchestras and as university faculty. As a chamber musician, Powell has performed, toured, and recorded with such chamber groups as the Amernet String Quartet and Apollon Musagète Quartet. He has also produced acclaimed solo and chamber music albums and several music publications for double bass. 

As an educator, for ten years Dr. Powell was the director of orchestras at Eastern High School in Louisville, Kentucky. His orchestras were selected to perform at state conventions on multiple occasions and performed twice at the United Nations. Dr. Powell has served as President of the Kentucky and Florida chapters of the American String Teachers Association and participated in the teacher mentor program of the National Association for Music Education. Dr. Powell continues to maintain an active schedule as a performer, clinician, and guest conductor for youth orchestras throughout the United States.
