Paul Richardson

Paul Richardson is a photographer, videographer, author, and marketing consultant.

A graduate of Central College (Pella, IA), Richardson received an MA (Political Science) and Russian Area Studies Certificate from Indiana University, Bloomington. In 1989 and 1990, he lived and worked in Moscow, running one of the first successful Soviet-Western joint ventures, a publishing company based in Moscow.

Richardson founded StoryWorkz in 1990, and, over the next two decades, the company published some of the finest writing in English on Russia, including two national-award-winning translations of Russian classics.

In 2017, after a 20,000-kilometer journey (with collaborators Mikhail Mordasov and Nadya Grebennikova) to interview 22 centenarians born in 1917, Richardson produced the short documentary Resilience, and wrote and edited a book of the same name.

In 2018, Richardson received Indiana University’s REEI Distinguished Alumnus Award, an honor that celebrates alumni of the Institute who have made exceptional contributions to academia, public service, education, outreach, and other fields by drawing on their expertise in the Russian and East European region.

Over the past decade, in reaction to the Kremlin's international aggression, StoryWorkz began to pivot away from things Russian, using its experience in publishing and marketing to help companies and organizations tell their stories with greater impact and engagement, with particular emphasis on photography and videography.

Richardson's photography has been published in, among others: Haute Living, Vermont Life, Seven Days, California Wine and Travel, Russian Life, Palm Beach Illustrated, GB Opera Magazine, Forbes.com, Women’s World, California Home Design, Robb Report, Hidden Europe, ProSales, LA Daily News, Arts Beat LA, the Barre Montpelier Times-Argus, the San Francisco Chronicle/SFgate.com, and the late, great Vermont Life Calendars.

Richardson lives with his wife of 36+ years, Stephanie, in Montpelier, Vermont. In his spare time he runs, writes, does landscape photography, enjoys fine single malt scotch, and is a member of the board of directors of Elevate Youth Vermont.
