You’ve achieved remarkable success at a relatively young age. What are the unique challenges and opportunities that come with being a young artist?
I feel incredibly fortunate to have gotten so many opportunities with the piano. It can be a challenge to deal with the expectations I place on myself in a healthy way. This can be especially hard when I’m on a program with an artist whom I’ve long admired. Nevertheless, it’s also helped me realize that anyone — regardless of age or background — has something valuable to offer as long as they believe in themselves.
You’ve been named one of the “40 Most Creative Mexicans in the World” and one of Forbes Mexico’s “100 Most Creative and Powerful Women.” How do you balance your role as a musician with your broader impact as a cultural ambassador and advocate for the arts?
Music is an amazing way to connect with people from all walks of life. I hope to use my platform to make music more accessible, and to showcase just how powerful it can be.
Could you share with us how your Mexican heritage influences your musical choices?
Mexico boasts a rich cultural heritage and a treasure of classical pieces, which are remarkably beautiful yet largely unrecognized internationally, particularly for solo piano. I love that I can add colors from my culture into programs that feature more “standard” pieces, offering a fresh musical perspective.
Who or what has inspired you to pursue your musical path?
My father, a violinist, was a significant influence on my musical journey. I grew up listening to him practice daily. Over time, I realized that my happiest moments were always centered around music.
Is there a composer or piece of music that holds special significance for you?
I love Schubert, although truthfully, my favorite composer is often the one whose piece I’m currently playing. Each composition feels like stepping into a different universe.
What is a memorable onstage moment or performance that has had a profound impact on you personally or professionally?
My second concert with an orchestra was really special to me. I was 10 years old and it was in my home theater in Guadalajara, Mexico. I remember vividly thinking, “Oh, there is nothing quite like this feeling. I want it forever!”
What advice do you have for young aspiring musicians who are just starting their journey?
Find and let yourself feel satisfaction in the process, not only the result.
Any upcoming projects or collaborations you’re particularly excited about?
I recently participated in a project involving Phillip Glass’s etudes, and it’s brought a lot of opportunities and wonderful people into my life. I have some future plans with this project that I am very excited about.
