Pretty Yende

Pretty Yende

Born in South Africa, Pretty Yende reached the top of her opera career with extraordinary speed and quickly became one of the brightest stars in the world of music. After her debut at the Latvian National Theater in Riga as Micaëla in Carmen, she has performed in many major international theaters, including the Royal Opera House, Opéra National de Paris, Metropolitan Opera, and countless others. Pretty’s concert performances include her recent Carnegie Hall recital and appearances in over 15 countries.

In 2022, Pretty made her San Francisco Opera House debut as Violetta in La Traviata. Additionally, she returned to Wiener Staatsoper as the title role in Massenet’s Manon and Marie in La fille du régiment. She also reprised Micaëla in Carmen at Staatsoper Berlin, debuted as Gilda in Verdi’s Rigoletto at Staatsoper Hamburg, and returned to all four heroines in Offenbach’s Le Contes d’Hoffmann. In addition, Pretty performed at the coronation of King Charles III at Westminster Abbey.

Pretty’s 2023 season included her MET Opera and Opéra de Paris debuts and a new production of La Traviata staged by Simon Stone. Pretty returned to Wiener Staatsoper to star in La Sonnambula and to the Royal Opera House for Gilda in Rigoletto. 2024 engagements include La Traviata at Staatsoper Berlin and L’elisir d’Amore at Bayerische Staatsoper, as well as two role debuts: Cleopatra in Handel’s Guilio Cesare in Egitto in Frankfurt and the title role in Maria Stuarda in Naples.
