Lester Lynch has established himself as one of the most important Verdi baritones of the twenty-first century.

In June 2016, he was hailed for his performances of Porgy in Porgy and Bess at the world renowned Spoleto Festival. Fred Cohn, of Opera News wrote, “The production came to full, throbbing life whenever Lester Lynch’s Porgy took the stage. His triumph came not just from his wonderfully sympathetic stage presence, or from handsomeness of his solid, burnished baritone, but from his marshaling of all his capabilities to render the character in full…Porgy may never cease to be a troublesome work, but Lynch’s performance allowed us to apprehend Gershwin’s towering achievement.”

Lynch recently made his debut at the renowned Teatro alla Scala singing the role of Crown in Porgy and Bess with Maestro Alan Gilbert conducting. Other recent performances include his debut at the Royal Opera House as Shylock in The Merchant of Venice, a role he has also sung with Welsh National Opera; Conte di Luna in Il trovatore with the San Antonio Symphony; George Wilson in The Great Gatsby with the Semperoper Dresden; and the title role in Busoni’s Doktor Faust, also with the Semperoper.

Lynch’s recent recording of spirituals and hymns On My Journey Now on Pentatone was received with great acclaim. His recording of the role of Iago in Verdi’s Otello with the Gulbenkian Orchestra in Portugal will soon be released, also on the Pentatone label.
