Laura Griffiths is the principal oboe of the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra.  Griffiths was previously the principal oboe of The Cleveland Orchestra, acting principal oboe of the San Francisco Opera Orchestra for several seasons, and acting associate principal Oboe of the San Francisco Symphony for one season.   

In addition to playing with the San Francisco Ballet, Griffiths is an active chamber musician. She co-founded a group called STROBE (strobemusic.squarespace.com) which consists of oboe and string trio, performing throughout the Bay Area.  They recently premiered two works that were commissioned for them. Griffiths is also a member of the Stanford Woodwind Quintet.              

Griffiths has been the guest principal oboe of several major orchestras across the country, including the symphony orchestras of Boston, Pittsburgh, Saint Louis, and Atlanta.  She has played several programs as the principal oboe with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and the San Francisco Symphony and performed in the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra’s 2016 European tour.

Griffiths was Principal Oboe and soloist with the Mainly Mozart Festival Orchestra in San Diego for nine seasons.  She was also Principal oboe of the Britt Festival Orchestra in Oregon and the Midsummer Mozart Festival in the Bay Area for several years.

After graduating, Griffiths became the principal oboe of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, a position she held for nine years.  During this time she also was the woodwind chamber music teacher at the Eastman School of Music.  Griffiths graduated with honors from the Eastman School of Music, where she was a student of Richard Killmer.
