Bouchaine Young Artist Series

Festival Napa Valley has presented over 50 of America’s most talented young musicians in this popular admission-free concert series. Students selected to participate have the opportunity to hone their performance skills, and receive a generous scholarship from the festival. These young musicians serve as role models and contribute to the continued renewal and relevance of the performing arts. As this series has grown in popularity and demand every year, Bouchaine Young Artist concerts are being moved to Napa Valley College this year, doubling the capacity and increasing access for local residents.

Yoonah Kim
Yoonah Kim

Yoonah Kim is the first woman to win first prize at the Vandoren Emerging Artist Competition and the first solo clarinetist in thirty years to win the Concert Artists Guild International Competition. A member of Ensemble Connect, Kim is an ambassador for Carnegie Hall in New York City public schools.

Sophia Bacelar

Cuban-Chinese-American cellist Sophia Bacelar is quickly gaining recognition as one of classical music’s young rising stars. And she is passionate about promoting classical music to a new, younger generation of listeners, as well as bringing it to less-reached communities throughout the world.

Russian Renaissance Quartet
Russian Renaissance Quartet

Crossover quartet Russian Renaissance brings traditional Russian folk music to another level. Since making its debut in October 2015, live-scoring with world-renowned director and Cannes Film Festival laureate Emir Kusturica, the quartet has gone on to win accolades for its high-profile appearances in Russia, the United States, Serbia, and Japan.

Bouchaine Young Artist Concert: Sophia Bacelar, cello

The dynamic multinational cellist Sophia Bacelar, a Cuban-Chinese-American who studied at the Paris Conservatory, made her debut at the Berlin Philharmonie this season and has been booked for performances from New York to Geneva. She is one of the rising stars introduced to the festival audience through the Bouchaine Young Artists Series.

Bouchaine Young Artist Concert: Yoonah Kim, clarinet

Napa audiences will have their first chance to hear the sterling young Korean-Canadian clarinetist Yoonah Kim, who made her debut at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall this year after becoming the first solo clarinetist in 30 years to win the prestigious Concert Artists Guild International Competition. A Juilliard graduate, she’s making a name for herself with orchestras and festivals around the U.S. and Canada.

Bouchaine Young Artist Concert: Russian Renaissance

The captivating ensemble Russian Renaissance, a Moscow-based quartet that won last year’s $100,000 grand prize at the University of Michigan’s M-Prize chamber music competition, performs traditional Russian folk music filtered through a modern sensibility, playing fiery and lyrical music on balalaika, contrabass balalaika, button accordion and the lute-like domra.
